Ipod Nano 6G(Blue Review)

Apples latest Ipod Nano is nice, little work device that changes the world's view on the ipod nano line. Is it worthy of the Nano title, should it have been a new edition to the shuffle line instead, or should have just been an idea that never happened? Jump past the break to find out what we think.

Hardware

Apple's newest edition to the popular ipod nano line is one of the most skeptical designs to date. They abandoned the whole candy bar, click wheel style for a more Shuffle-sized esque form factor, with a little ipod touch thrown in. The form factor is an all around easy and quick one to get used to on the top you have power/stand-by button, volume rockers up and down (two separate buttons), on the bottom you have the standard 3.5mm headphone jack and apple's 30 pin connector port and the two sides are black. Of course all the sides are optionally that size because of the ability to rotate the screen, changing the top, bottom, and sides. More on that in the software section. On the back we have a belt clip similar to those found on the Ipod Shuffle line, which is study clips tight and it stays firm. So if you're running or exorcising with this you don't have to worry about the device sliding or falling off. The device is very thin, as you can seen compared to the ipod touch 4g in one of the pictures, and is very light. This version has also got rid of the built in speaker,

Software
The Nano 6g is running an iOS look alike operating system but it is not classified as such. But if you've ever used an ipod touch or iPhone you would feel right at home with this device minus the home button. You also cannot add any type of app or game to the device. All the icons are focused around music like Playlist, Now Playing, Songs, Genres, Artists, and Composers. It does feature a built in  Radio, you can view Photos in the built in Photos application. The remaining apps are the Clock, Settings and Fitness(Nike +) apps. The fitness apps turns the ipod nano into a pedometer, that measure steps from everyday workouts to a range of workouts keeping a history of your best and worst number of steps.

Sound Quality

Reducing the size of the ipod nano did not take away from the excellent sound quality often given to the ipod nano. The nano is capable of producing nice loud sounds if you're in a crowded a gym or airport, and it has great support for the different type of sounds and music.

Battery Life

With all the reduced functionality of the new ipod nano, the battery is pretty good giving me somewhat near a full day of music playback working off a full charge

Capacity

This nano much like all the others comes in both an 8gb and 16gb models.

Price
149-179 (check local retailers)

Overview

The newest ipod nano is a nice device if you're just a music listener, and i literally mean just a music listener. If you're coming from simple like an iPod Shuffle I would say this is a nice device for you or if you find yourself in the gym often and you don't want to risk getting sweating in your iPod Touch or latest android fun, i would recommend this, if you have the money. I think the price is a bit out there for them to charge the same price as the last gen nano, which featured games, built in speaker, and camera. But it is excellent for a workout device. I personally don't think apple's going to stick with this design, this was more of a test to see if it would work and maybe it did, maybe it didn't, I don't think so. Or maybe apple's going to keep this and bring back the old design also, because there truly is only four types of iPod's out there, a 5th option wouldn't really hurt.

Well this was my first review on the iPod Nano 6G, video review coming soon. Thanks for reading.
